Where it came from
Wild Dogs was originally introduced in the 1997 Weatherlight expansion for Magic: The Gathering. Designed during a formative era of the game, the card reflects the aesthetic of early fantasy art, featuring a dynamic illustration by Kev Walker. It was conceived as a low-cost, aggressive creature for Green-aligned decks, emphasizing the visceral, pack-hunting nature of the creatures through its mechanics and evocative visual style.
The version from Dominaria Remastered was released in 2023 as part of a curated set designed to celebrate the history of the plane of Dominaria. By reprinting classic cards with updated card frames and archival art styles, the set aimed to evoke nostalgia while providing a refined drafting experience. The inclusion of Wild Dogs in this set honors its legacy as a quintessential early Magic creature, maintaining its original artistic identity while integrating it into a modern, thematic compilation.
