Where it came from
Will of the Temur was released as part of the Tarkir: Dragonstorm Commander deck in 2024. This set was designed to revisit the plane of Tarkir, a world defined by its shifting timelines and warring clans, specifically focusing on the fierce survivalist culture of the Temur Frontier. The card serves as a mechanical tribute to the clan's core identity, emphasizing the themes of resilience and the harnessing of elemental power through the synergy of creature-focused gameplay.
The card’s illustration continues the high-fantasy aesthetic established by the Magic: The Gathering art team, reflecting the rugged, snowy aesthetic of the Temur territory. It was designed to function as a utility piece within the Commander format, intended to reward players for their loyalty to the creature-heavy playstyle associated with the Temur wedge of colors. It reflects the broader design philosophy of the Commander product line, which aims to provide specialized tools that bridge the gap between traditional set mechanics and the social dynamics of the multiplayer format.
