Where it came from
Will, Scion of Peace was released in 2023 as part of the Wilds of Eldraine set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. The card depicts a central character in the game's ongoing narrative, showcasing Will Kenrith as he navigates the aftermath of the Phyrexian invasion of the multiverse. This version of the card was designed to function as a legendary creature planeswalker, reflecting the character's attempt to restore balance and order to his home plane of Eldraine.
The artwork for this card was created by illustrator Anna Steinbauer, who has contributed extensively to the visual identity of Magic: The Gathering. Steinbauer focused on a serene yet authoritative depiction of Will, utilizing a color palette and lighting design that emphasizes his transition into a figure of diplomacy and peace. Upon its release, the card was well-received by players for its unique mechanics, which reward players for gaining life, fitting thematically with the character's pacifist objectives.
