Wind Spirit

Wind Spirit was originally printed for the Mirage expansion in 1996 and was later included in the Classic Sixth Edition core set released in 1999. This card reflects the high-fantasy aesthetic of early Magic: The Gathering, serving as a staple of the blue color identity which emphasizes air-based manipulation and flying creatures. The inclusion in Sixth Edition was notable for being the first core set to incorporate cards from the Mirage block, signaling Wizards of the Coast's move toward a more unified and consistent mechanical framework for the game.

The artwork, illustrated by the artist Quinton Hoover, captures the ethereal and fluid nature of the creature, consistent with the artist's signature style of blending ornate detail with dreamlike composition. Hoover was a foundational illustrator for the game during its early years, and his design for Wind Spirit aimed to evoke a sense of elemental grace. The card was received by the player base as a reliable, if modest, aerial threat, valued primarily for its evasion capabilities in limited formats of the era.
