Wingbeat Warrior

Wingbeat Warrior was released in February 2003 as part of the Legions expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This set was unique in the history of the game for consisting entirely of creatures, a design choice intended to emphasize the chaotic, aggressive nature of the set's setting. The card was designed as a common-rarity creature to facilitate drafting and deck-building, providing players with a straightforward, flying threat that fit the set's thematic focus on creature-based combat.

The card’s illustration was created by artist Heather Hudson, who has contributed numerous pieces to the game throughout its history. Her depiction of the Wingbeat Warrior captures the visceral, avian aesthetic typical of the set's creature designs, aiming for a balance between naturalistic detail and the high-fantasy style established by the brand. Upon release, the card was received as a functional, utility-focused piece, serving as a reliable airborne attacker for players navigating the limited-format environment of the Legions expansion.
