Where it came from
Wish was originally released in the 2021 set Adventures in the Forgotten Realms as a thematic homage to the long-standing Dungeons & Dragons spell of the same name. Designed as a flexible utility card, it allows players to retrieve a card from their sideboard or exile zone, reflecting the immense power and versatility associated with the wish mechanic throughout the history of Magic: The Gathering. Its inclusion in the game bridges the gap between traditional tabletop roleplaying mechanics and the card game's strategic resource management.
The Mystery Booster 2 reprint of Wish features the signature aesthetic of the set, which focuses on providing a curated selection of cards that celebrate various eras and design philosophies of Magic. As part of this experimental playtest-heavy collection, the card retains its original functionality while serving as a functional piece for players participating in limited draft environments. The illustration emphasizes the magical, reality-bending nature of the spell, remaining consistent with the high-fantasy art direction established in its initial printing.
