Where it came from
Witness the Future was released as part of the Innistrad: Crimson Vow Art Series in 2021. This set was designed to showcase the high-fantasy gothic horror aesthetic of the expansion, which centered on the wedding of Olivia Voldaren and the vampire themes of the plane. These cards serve as collectible art prints rather than functional game pieces, intended primarily for players and fans who appreciate the visual development work behind the Magic: The Gathering trading card game.
The art was created by illustrator Zezhou Chen, who sought to capture a moment of mystical foretelling within the moody, ornate architecture of the Innistrad setting. The piece is characterized by its dramatic use of light and color, which reflects the tension and dark elegance prevalent in the Crimson Vow release. Upon its debut, the series was well-received by the community for providing a dedicated format to highlight the intricate work of the artists who define the game's evolving visual identity.
