Where it came from
Wolfsbane, Highland Hero, card number 767, originates from the Marvel Super Heroes Commander set, a thematic expansion designed to integrate the Mutants of the X-Men universe into tactical tabletop play. Rahne Sinclair, known as Wolfsbane, is depicted here in her traditional heroic attire, reflecting her role as a foundational member of the New Mutants. The card was crafted to emphasize her dual nature, balancing her Scottish heritage with her lycanthropic abilities.
The visual direction for this set focused on dynamic, comic-accurate portraiture, aiming to capture the intensity of characters during combat. The design team prioritized clear readability for gameplay mechanics while maintaining an aesthetic consistency that echoed the classic aesthetic of 1980s and 90s Marvel trade dress. Upon release, the set was received as a functional bridge between narrative-driven storytelling and competitive play, finding a dedicated audience among both X-Men enthusiasts and tabletop strategy fans.
