Where it came from
Woodland Champion was originally designed for the Core Set 2020 expansion, intended to provide green-aligned decks with a scaling threat that rewarded the player for creating creature tokens. Its design centers on the synergy between generating small creature presence and bolstering the board state, reflecting the classic 'go-wide' strategy prevalent in forest-themed archetypes within the Magic: The Gathering ecosystem.
The version released in Jumpstart 2022, collector number 745, serves as a thematic inclusion for decks focused on the tribal or token-based nature of the woods. While the illustration and mechanical identity were established during its initial 2019 release, its reappearance in the Jumpstart format was aimed at providing players with a straightforward, effective creature for quick-play formats, maintaining the balance between simplicity and tactical growth that defines the card's history.
