Woodland Druid

Woodland Druid was released as part of the Odyssey expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game in 2001. Developed by Wizards of the Coast, the set introduced mechanics centered around the graveyard, reflecting a thematic shift toward resource management from the discard pile. As a common card in the green color identity, the Druid served as a functional piece of the set's limited environment, designed to stabilize board states in the early turns of a game.

The artwork for Woodland Druid was created by illustrator Heather Hudson, who was a prolific contributor to Magic during this era. Her aesthetic often focused on warm, organic depictions of nature and fantastical creatures, consistent with the druidic themes of the green faction. Upon release, the card was generally viewed as a utility creature, valued by players for its efficiency in specific deck archetypes rather than for competitive power, fitting seamlessly into the established fantasy art direction of the early 2000s.
