World-Bottling Kit

The World-Bottling Kit was released in 2004 as part of Unhinged, the second silver-bordered parody expansion for Magic: The Gathering. Designed by Wizards of the Coast to explore the game's boundaries through humor and unconventional mechanics, the set was intended to poke fun at the complex rules and tropes that defined standard play. By incorporating 'gotcha' mechanics and meta-commentary, the set allowed designers to experiment with concepts that would have been impossible to implement in a serious tournament setting.

The card was illustrated by the artist Doug Chaffee, whose work typically leans into the fantastical elements of the game. In this instance, the design intentionally contrasts with traditional card aesthetics to emphasize its satirical nature. Upon release, the set received a mixed but generally affectionate reception from the community; while some players found the experimental rules cumbersome, others appreciated the levity it brought to the hobby and the clever way it subverted the game's established logic.
