Where it came from
Wrong Turn was released in 2020 as part of the Commander Legends expansion for Magic: The Gathering. This set was designed specifically for the Commander multiplayer format, introducing a drafting component that had not been explored in previous supplemental sets. The card serves as a blue-aligned utility spell, reflecting the set's focus on chaotic, social interaction and shifting political dynamics during a game.
The illustration for this card was created by artist Randy Vargas, who focused on capturing the whimsical and disorienting nature of a 'wrong turn' within a fantasy landscape. The artwork emphasizes the sudden disruption of a creature's path, fitting the card's mechanical function of changing a creature's controller or attacking target. The design was well-received by players for its flavor-forward approach to political gameplay in Commander.
