Where it came from
Wrong Turn was released as part of the Commander Legends Promos set, originating from the 2020 expansion designed specifically for the Commander format of Magic: The Gathering. Wizards of the Coast introduced these promos as non-foil, extended-art versions of cards from the main set to provide players with visually distinct options for their decks, reflecting the company's broader strategy of catering to the growing collectibility and customization demands within the Commander community.
The card features artwork by Anna Steinbauer, who utilized a distinct, surrealist aesthetic to capture the card's mechanical function of changing the target of a spell or ability. The design choices aimed to evoke a sense of redirection and chaos, fitting the blue color identity's penchant for trickery. Upon its release, the card was received as a niche but flavorful utility spell, appreciated primarily by players looking to add unpredictability to their gameplay experience.
