Where it came from
Wydwen, the Biting Gale was originally introduced in the 2007 Magic: The Gathering expansion set Lorwyn, designed by the Wizards of the Coast development team to explore the lore of faerie folk. The character represents a powerful, elusive leader within the plane's nocturnal ecosystem, designed with mechanics that emphasize evasion, flash, and self-protection to mirror the flighty and dangerous nature of its creature type.
This specific printing appeared in the Commander 2020 product line as part of a curated selection of reprints intended to support the deck themes of that year. The artwork, originally rendered by artist Warren Mahy, captures the ethereal and menacing quality of the character, a portrayal that has been well-regarded by players for its atmospheric contribution to the game’s visual identity over the past decade.
