What it does
At the beginning of your end step, put a +1/+1 counter on target creature you control. Then if that creature has power 7 or greater, this creature becomes prepared. (While it's prepared, you may cast a copy of its spell. Doing so unprepares it.)

Where it came from
Yavimaya Bloomsage and its modal double-faced counterpart, Channel, were released as part of the 'Secrets of Strixhaven' subset within the Strixhaven: School of Mages Commander decks in 2021. This cycle of cards was designed to pay homage to classic, powerful spells from Magic: The Gathering history, reimagining them with new art and context to fit the academic theme of Strixhaven University.
The card features art by the long-time Magic illustrator Johannes Voss. In this iteration, the design team sought to evoke a sense of scholarly discovery, blending the intense, game-warping legacy of the original Channel card—a spell infamous for its role in early tournament formats—with the lush, nature-focused aesthetic of Yavimaya.
