Provenance

Where it came from

Yavimaya Coast was originally introduced in the Apocalypse expansion in 2001 as part of a cycle of allied-colored pain lands. Designed to provide efficient mana fixing for competitive play, these lands allow players to choose between colorless mana or one of two specific colors at the cost of one life point. The Tenth Edition printing, released in 2007, marked the card's inclusion in the core set, which served to modernize the card frame and make the staple land more accessible to newer players joining the Magic: The Gathering ecosystem.

The artwork for this version was illustrated by Rob Alexander, a prolific artist renowned for his contributions to the foundational aesthetic of the game's landscape cards. His design captures the mystical, bioluminescent nature of the Yavimaya region within the Dominaria plane. By utilizing a cool, atmospheric color palette, Alexander emphasized the humid and overgrown terrain of the coast, creating a visual identity that has remained a classic representation of the setting for over two decades.
