Yawgmoth's Bargain

Yawgmoth's Bargain was originally released in the 1999 Urza's Destiny expansion, where it quickly became one of the most powerful and controversial cards in Magic: The Gathering history. Its ability to exchange life points for card advantage proved so efficient that it fundamentally altered the competitive landscape, leading to its eventual restriction and banning in multiple formats. The card represents the pinnacle of the 'combo' era of the late nineties, capturing the dark, mechanical aesthetic of the Phyrexians as envisioned by illustrator Alex Horley.

This specific iteration originates from the World Championship Decks 2000, a product line released by Wizards of the Coast to replicate the exact decks used by finalists at that year's World Championship. These cards are easily identified by their gold-bordered frames and the signature of the player who utilized them—in this case, Nicolas Labarre—printed directly on the card face. Because these decks were designed for educational and commemorative purposes rather than tournament play, they serve as a unique snapshot of the high-level competitive strategies that defined the millennium's turn.
