You Are Already Dead

The card 'You Are Already Dead' was introduced as part of 'The List' for the Magic: The Gathering expansion Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty in 2022. It functions as a common-rarity instant spell designed to reward interaction, allowing a player to destroy a creature that has been dealt damage during a turn, drawing a card in the process. The card's name and mechanical design serve as a direct, culturally resonant homage to the iconic line from the manga and anime series Fist of the North Star, reflecting Wizards of the Coast's occasional use of pop-culture references within their card sets.

The card’s illustration was crafted by artist Wisnu Tan, who aimed to capture the swift, decisive nature of a martial arts strike within the high-tech, cyberpunk-inspired aesthetic of the Neon Dynasty setting. Upon its release, it was well-received by the player base for its efficiency and flavor, particularly in Limited formats where its ability to replace itself while removing a threat made it a versatile inclusion in black-aligned decks.
