You, Magic Playtester

You, Magic Playtester is a promotional card distributed during the early years of Magic: The Gathering, specifically appearing in limited quantities during internal company playtesting events. It served as an inside joke within the Wizards of the Coast offices, reflecting the company culture of the 1990s where developers frequently created silver-bordered or joke cards to celebrate the game's mechanics or to offer a humorous meta-commentary on the player experience.

The card was illustrated by long-time Magic artist Christopher Rush, who utilized his signature style to depict an idealized, somewhat humorous take on the playtester role. It was never intended for legal tournament play, and its design intentionally breaks standard game rules to evoke a sense of whimsical rebellion. Because it was produced for specific internal events rather than a mass-market retail set, it has remained a significant curiosity among enthusiasts interested in the early history and behind-the-scenes culture of the game.
