Where it came from
The Zanarkand, Ancient Metropolis // Lasting Fayth card was released as part of the Final Fantasy Trading Card Game promotional series. It serves as a visual homage to the opening act of Final Fantasy X, depicting the sprawling metropolis of Zanarkand before its destruction. The design centers on the dual nature of the city, utilizing the double-faced card mechanic to represent the transition from the bustling, technologically advanced city to the spiritual resonance of the Fayth.
The artwork was developed to evoke the nostalgic and tragic atmosphere central to the game's narrative. By juxtaposing the urban landscape with the ethereal essence of the Fayth, the illustrators aimed to ground the player in the game's core conflict between machina and summoner traditions. Upon release, the card was received as a significant collector's piece for fans of the franchise, valued primarily for its thematic representation of the game's most iconic setting.
