Where it came from
The Zombie Cheese Magician sticker sheet was released in 2022 as part of the Unfinity expansion for Magic: The Gathering. This set was designed as the fourth 'Un-set,' a series of supplemental products that intentionally break standard rules and embrace humor, parody, and experimental mechanics. Stickers were introduced in this set as a novel way to modify creature stats and abilities mid-game, blending traditional tabletop card play with a tactile, sticker-based sub-game.
The design of the sheet reflects the chaotic, sci-fi carnival aesthetic curated by Wizards of the Coast for the Unfinity theme. Illustrators tasked with the set aimed to lean into the absurdist humor intrinsic to the franchise, resulting in the whimsical depiction of a zombie magician conjuring dairy products. Upon release, the inclusion of stickers proved a polarizing design choice among the player base, as it required players to manage physical components outside of the standard deck-building ecosystem.
