Where it came from
Zombie Infestation was originally printed in the Odyssey expansion set in 2001, reflecting the set's thematic focus on the graveyard as a resource. The card was designed as a discard-enabling enchantment, rewarding players for filling their graveyards with creatures. It became a staple in graveyard-centric strategies, specifically those seeking to power out massive threats or trigger resurrection mechanics that were prevalent in early 2000s Magic: The Gathering gameplay.
The version from the Jumpstart set, released in 2020, features artwork by Daarken. The design goal of Jumpstart was to provide a pick-up-and-play experience that showcased iconic themes from the game's history. By including Zombie Infestation, the developers emphasized the perennial popularity of tribal zombie strategies, grounding the card in a layout designed to be both functional for new players and nostalgic for long-term fans of the archetype.
