Where it came from
Zombie Infestation was originally printed in the 2001 Odyssey expansion, serving as a key card for graveyard-focused strategies. The Graveborn edition, released in 2011 as part of the Premium Deck Series, utilized the card to support the set's central theme of reanimation. By allowing players to discard cards to create creature tokens, the design turns the discard pile into a resource, bridging the gap between card disadvantage and board presence.
The artwork for this version retains the original illustration by rk post, a prominent artist in the Magic: The Gathering community. Post’s design aesthetic for the card leans into the grotesque and visceral nature of the undead, capturing the swarming essence of a zombie outbreak. Upon its initial release and subsequent inclusion in the Graveborn deck, it was noted by players for its efficiency in decks designed to manipulate the graveyard, solidifying its place as a staple utility piece for casual and competitive players alike.
