Where it came from
66,666 Years: Advent of the Dark Mage originated as a popular South Korean web novel written by Hwabong, which was subsequently adapted into a webtoon series. The story follows Diablo Volfir, a powerful dark mage who is sealed away for over sixty-six thousand years before reincarnated into the body of a young human boy, allowing him to navigate a modern fantasy world while settling old scores.
The series is part of the broader rise of the regression and reincarnation genre within the manhwa industry, emphasizing high-stakes action and the interplay between ancient magical prowess and contemporary settings. Hwabong's work is characterized by its comedic undertones paired with intense displays of arcane power, which helped it gain a substantial following among readers of platform-based digital comics.
