Akuyaku Reijou, Cecilia Sylvie wa Shinitakunai no de Dansou suru koto ni shita

Akuyaku Reijou, Cecilia Sylvie wa Shinitakunai no de Dansou suru koto ni shita, often referred to as The Villainess Cecilia Sylvie Doesn't Want to Die so She Decided to Crossdress, originated as a light novel series authored by Akizakura Hiroro. Set within the popular Japanese subgenre of 'villainess' fiction, the narrative follows Cecilia, who uses her knowledge of a past life to avoid a doomed fate by disguising herself as a man. The work capitalizes on the common tropes of otome game reincarnation while adding a comedic twist centered on gender-bending identities.

The light novel gained traction in the competitive landscape of web-based serialized fiction before moving to traditional print publication. The character designs and illustrations, which lean into the elegant aesthetics of period-inspired fantasy, were crafted to emphasize the protagonist's internal conflict and public deception. Upon its release, the series was received as a lighthearted contribution to the genre, praised for its focus on survival-based humor rather than typical romantic rivalries.
