Where it came from
The Akuyaku Reijou Desu ga, Heroine ni Kouryaku Saretemasu wa?! anthology comic emerged from the surging popularity of the villainess subgenre in Japanese light novels and manga during the late 2010s and early 2020s. This specific volume functions as a compilation of short, themed stories that explore queer romance dynamics within the established tropes of reincarnated villainesses, subverting traditional heteronormative narrative arcs often found in the genre.
The editorial direction for this anthology focused on bringing together various artists to interpret the premise through distinct visual styles. Kuriyama Kogane contributed key conceptual work to the project, emphasizing an aesthetic that balances classic shojo romance conventions with the modern, punchy delivery required for episodic manga anthologies. Upon release, it was received as a niche but significant contribution to the growing body of yuri-themed villainess literature.
