Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 3: Until the Stars Turn Cold

Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 3: Until the Stars Turn Cold collects issues 45 through 50 of the series, originally published in the early 2000s during a pivotal era for the character. This volume is part of J. Michael Straczynski’s acclaimed run, which sought to modernize the narrative by exploring the mystical origins of Spider-Man’s powers through the introduction of the character Ezekiel Sims, who suggests that Peter Parker’s abilities are totemistic rather than merely the result of a scientific accident.

The artwork in this collection is primarily handled by John Romita Jr., whose gritty, kinetic style helped define the look of this specific era. Straczynski’s writing during this period was widely praised for focusing on Peter Parker’s personal growth and his life as a high school teacher, grounded in a more mature, introspective tone that diverged from the superhero tropes of the previous decade.
