Catalogus der bibliotheek van het Bataviaasch genootschap van kunsten en wetenschappen

The Catalogus der bibliotheek van het Bataviaasch genootschap van kunsten en wetenschappen was compiled by Jacob Anne van der Chijs in the late 19th century to organize the extensive intellectual holdings of the Batavia Society of Arts and Sciences. Established in 1778, the Society served as a primary research institution in the Dutch East Indies, and this publication was essential for cataloging the diverse array of manuscripts, historical texts, and scientific reports that had been accumulated over more than a century of colonial scholarship.

Van der Chijs, a dedicated archivist and historian, designed this catalog to standardize the bibliographic data of the Society's collection. His work reflects the methodical approach of 19th-century colonial administration toward preserving cultural and historical information. It remains a key reference for scholars interested in the history of Southeast Asian studies and the development of archival practices within the Dutch East Indies.
