Catalogus der bibliotheek van het Bataviaasch Genootschap van Kunsten en Wetenschappen: Tweede Vervolg-Catalogus der Bibliotheek van het Bataviaasch Genootschap van Kunsten en Wetenschappen. Vervolg 2

This volume serves as the second supplementary catalog to the extensive library collection of the Bataviaasch Genootschap van Kunsten en Wetenschappen, or the Royal Batavian Society of Arts and Sciences. Established in 1778 in Batavia, modern-day Jakarta, the society functioned as a preeminent research institution dedicated to the study of the sciences and humanities in the Dutch East Indies. As the society’s library grew to house a vast repository of historical manuscripts, colonial records, and scientific documentation, the organization periodically issued these formal catalogs to organize its diverse holdings for visiting scholars and researchers.

The publication of these supplemental catalogs reflects the society’s rigorous commitment to intellectual preservation and colonial documentation during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Compiled by the staff of the Society, these records were designed to provide systematic access to an ever-expanding archive of colonial history. These volumes are noted for their meticulous bibliographic classification, reflecting the academic standards of the era. They remain essential resources for historians today, offering a comprehensive view into the scholarly interests and literary cataloging practices of a major colonial-era cultural institution.
