Christopher Gist of Maryland and Some of His Descendants, 1679-1957

Christopher Gist of Maryland and Some of His Descendants, 1679-1957 was compiled by Jean Muir Dorsey and published in the mid-twentieth century as a comprehensive genealogical record. The volume serves as a formal documentation of the Gist lineage, tracing the family from their early colonial roots in Maryland through the subsequent generations that expanded across the American frontier. It was intended to provide a definitive reference for descendants and historians interested in the specific westward migration patterns and societal integration of this notable pioneer family.

The work reflects the rigorous standards of genealogical scholarship typical of the era, focusing on primary source verification, land records, and family correspondence. Jean Muir Dorsey approached the project with the intent to preserve the legacy of Christopher Gist—a significant scout and explorer who famously accompanied George Washington—by detailing the broader family network. The volume remains a respected, albeit niche, resource within historical libraries and archives, valued for its meticulous assembly of data during a time when such family histories were essential for maintaining ancestral memory.
