Chubby Cats and Dogs

Chubby Cats and Dogs is a series of illustrated collections featuring anthropomorphic, rotund animals, created by the artist known as 阿宅本柴. Emerging from the digital art community on platforms like Weibo and Xiaohongshu, the series was designed to emphasize comfort and humor through exaggerated proportions and expressive, rounded character designs. The collection gained traction as a form of visual stress relief, tapping into the broad appeal of 'fattened' aesthetics in contemporary internet culture.

The illustrations reflect a modern trend in character design where simple shapes and soft palettes are used to evoke a sense of playfulness and domestic warmth. By distilling the recognizable features of various cat and dog breeds into minimalist, circular forms, the author aims to capture the relatable personalities and quirks of household pets. The work has been well-received by fans of character-based stationery and digital art, leading to its adaptation into various physical goods and serialized volumes that celebrate the comedic side of pet ownership.
