Where it came from
Cluster: 12 World Adventure Story originated in the mid-1990s as a multimedia project involving the creative collective CLAMP. Designed as a concept that blended elements of a role-playing game with manga-style character aesthetics, it was intended to bridge the gap between interactive gaming narratives and traditional print media during a period of significant growth for Japanese pop culture exports.
The character designs were spearheaded by CLAMP, who brought their signature intricate, ethereal style to the series' diverse cast. While the overarching project sought to establish a complex, multi-layered world, the response from the public was tempered by the experimental nature of its format, leading it to remain a specialized title primarily appreciated by established followers of the group's early-to-mid career output.
