Deimos

Deimos, often known by its full title Curse of Deimos, was authored by the influential manga artist Mitsuteru Yokoyama and serialized in the late 1980s. Emerging during a period where Yokoyama was exploring dark, supernatural themes, the work reflects his transition from the heroic robot aesthetics of his early career toward more unsettling, atmospheric horror narratives. It serves as a prime example of the genre-blending characteristic of his later period, where human psychological fragility is pitted against ancient, mythological malevolence.

The design and narrative structure of Deimos are heavily influenced by Greek mythology, reimagined through the lens of modern urban dread. Yokoyama utilized stark linework and sharp contrasts to heighten the tension within the pages, aiming to disturb readers rather than simply entertain them. The series was received as a significant, albeit darker, contribution to his bibliography, cementing his reputation as a versatile creator capable of shifting seamlessly between lighthearted science fiction and profound psychological terror.
