Golden Cupid

The Golden Cupid series was authored by the influential mangaka Yokoyama Mitsuteru, a pivotal figure in the post-war Japanese manga industry. Created during a period when Yokoyama was diversifying his portfolio beyond his foundational works like Tetsujin 28-go, the series reflects the adventurous and experimental spirit of mid-century shonen storytelling. It captures the transition from traditional adventure narratives to the character-driven styles that would eventually come to dominate the genre.

Yokoyama's design approach for this series emphasizes clean line work and expressive character silhouettes, hallmarks of his disciplined artistic style. He aimed to craft a lighthearted yet engaging visual experience that resonated with the burgeoning youth readership in Japan. Upon its release, the series was received as a solid entry in his prolific bibliography, praised for its clarity of movement and the artist's ability to maintain narrative momentum within a shorter, episodic format.
