Delicious Seasons

Delicious Seasons, created by the artist known as Buddy, represents a niche yet evocative entry in the slice-of-life manga genre. Emerging from a wave of independent and indie-adjacent manga publishing in the early 2010s, the series was conceived to explore the quiet intersection of culinary appreciation and the changing of the calendar year. Buddy utilized the medium to center narratives around seasonal ingredients, pairing specific recipes with emotional vignettes that reflect the passage of time.

The aesthetic design of the volume reflects a minimalist approach, favoring clean lines and soft shading to emphasize the textures of the food depicted. By focusing on the sensory experience of cooking, Buddy sought to create a meditative reading experience that departed from the high-stakes drama prevalent in mainstream titles of the period. The work received modest but appreciative critical attention for its atmospheric quality, often being cited by enthusiasts of 'iyashikei' or healing-style manga for its gentle pacing and focus on everyday comfort.
