Deutsche Nationalbibliographie und Bibliographie des im Ausland erschienenen deutschsprachigen Veröffentlichungen: Monographien und Periodika, Fünfjahres Verzeichnis. 1986-1990. Schlagwort- und Stichwortregister mit systematischer Übersicht der Schlagwörter. Reihe E.. Zweiter Teil

The Deutsche Nationalbibliographie serves as the foundational record of German-language publishing, compiled by the Deutsche Nationalbibliothek. This specific five-year index, covering the period between 1986 and 1990, was created to provide a systematic bibliographical overview of monographs and periodicals released during the late Cold War era, including those published outside Germany. It functions as a vital finding aid for scholars, librarians, and researchers navigating the vast volume of intellectual output from that half-decade.

The series design reflects the rigorous, standardized approach to archival record-keeping maintained by the national library. By utilizing a subject and keyword register alongside a systematic overview, the publication aimed to bring order to the disparate output of German publishers. It is regarded not as a commercial design piece, but as a functional instrument of academic infrastructure, intended to preserve the cultural and historical record of the German language during a pivotal moment in European history.
