Deutscher Universitäts- Kalender [afterw.] Kalender der deutschen (reichs deutschen) Universitäten und Hochschulen [afterw.] Deutsches Hochschulverzeichnis, herausg. von F. Ascherson und W. Seelmann

The Deutscher Universitäts-Kalender was first published in the late 19th century as a comprehensive academic directory intended to provide clarity on the rapidly expanding landscape of German higher education. Edited by Ferdinand Ascherson and later W. Seelmann, the volume served as an indispensable reference for scholars, students, and administrative bodies, documenting faculty lists, curricula, and institutional developments across the German-speaking territories.

As the political landscape of Germany shifted throughout the 20th century, the title evolved from the Deutscher Universitäts-Kalender to the Kalender der deutschen (reichsdeutschen) Universitäten und Hochschulen, eventually settling as the Deutsches Hochschulverzeichnis. These iterations reflected the changing definitions of national identity and the formalization of academic standards during the period. The publication was widely regarded as a definitive professional tool, meticulously documenting the intellectual infrastructure of the era while serving as a primary administrative resource for university governance.
