Diplomataria et scriptores historiae germanicae medii aevi cum sigillis aeri incisis opera et studio Christiani Schoettgenii ... et Georgii Christophori Kreysigii: Tomus II. Accedit praefatio Christiani Gottlieb Buderi ... De itineribus eruditorum virorum rei historicae fructuosis

Published in the mid-18th century, this second volume is part of a monumental effort by German historians Christian Schöttgen and Georg Christoph Kreysig to compile and document medieval German source material. During this period, the Enlightenment sparked a renewed interest in historiography, leading scholars to meticulously transcribe and analyze charters, seals, and manuscripts to ground historical narratives in primary evidence. This specific work serves as a testament to the rigorous archival practices of the era, preserving fragile records that might otherwise have been lost to the ravages of time.

The volume features meticulous editorial work, including a preface by Christian Gottlieb Buder, who was noted for his focus on the scholarly traditions of historical research. The inclusion of copperplate engravings of seals highlights the pedagogical and aesthetic goals of the editors, who intended for the text to function as both a sourcebook for researchers and a visual record of medieval authority. While the work reflects the dense, specialized academic style of its time, it remains a cornerstone in the study of German medieval documentation and historical methodology.
