Where it came from
Dokuiri-hime no Yomeiri, or The Poison Princess's Marriage, is a manga series authored and illustrated by Mika Uzuki. It emerged within the vibrant landscape of Japanese fantasy manga, drawing upon traditional tropes of gothic romance and dark fairy tales. The narrative centers on a protagonist who possesses the lethal ability to poison anything she touches, exploring the complexities of her isolation and her eventual entry into a marriage contract that challenges the boundaries of her curse.
Mika Uzuki’s artistic approach emphasizes a delicate, atmospheric aesthetic that juxtaposes the grim nature of the protagonist’s power with the ornate, formal settings of the story. The series was designed to evoke a sense of melancholic beauty, focusing on character-driven emotional stakes rather than high-octane action. Upon its release, it found a dedicated audience among readers of josei and fantasy genres who appreciate character-focused storytelling and nuanced, mood-heavy world-building.
