Enma Note -Jigoku Idol Project-

Enma Note -Jigoku Idol Project- is a manga series created by the artist Aki Arata, first serialized in the late 2000s. The work emerged during a period when the blending of supernatural folklore with modern idol culture became a distinct subgenre in seinen and shonen manga. The narrative focuses on the intersection of the afterlife and the cutthroat entertainment industry, utilizing a dark, comedic tone to explore themes of fame and moral reckoning.

The design and illustration style reflect Arata's background in character-driven storytelling, emphasizing exaggerated expressions and high-contrast visuals to match the macabre subject matter. The series was produced as an imaginative exploration of what happens when traditional mythology meets contemporary celebrity worship. Upon its release, it was received as a niche entry in the horror-comedy category, appreciated primarily by readers who enjoy unconventional mash-ups of Japanese ghost stories and pop idol tropes.
