Where it came from
The Kagerou Daze Official Anthology Comic -SUMMER- was published as part of the multimedia expansion of Jin’s Kagerou Project, a sprawling narrative universe that began as a series of Vocaloid songs. Released to capitalize on the popularity of the franchise's anime adaptation and light novel series, this anthology serves as a collection of short-form manga stories that explore the lives of the Mekakushi Dan members within the recurring 'summer' motif central to the story's time-loop premise.
Aki Arata contributed to the anthology alongside various other artists, all tasked with interpreting the idiosyncratic, neon-drenched aesthetic of the source material. The design of these volumes emphasizes the vibrant, urban-fantasy visual style defined by Shidu and Wannyanpu, the original illustrators of the series. The anthology was received primarily by the dedicated fan base as a way to engage with the characters in more lighthearted, slice-of-life scenarios outside the heavy emotional weight of the primary canon.
