Where it came from
Final Fantasy XII: Drunk Bird is a doujinshi title published by the Japanese artist circle Kurotsurubami. Produced in the mid-to-late 2000s, this work emerged from the vibrant doujin community that flourished following the 2006 release of Final Fantasy XII. Doujinshi culture allows fans and amateur artists to explore side stories or alternative interpretations of established properties, often utilizing the game's complex political landscape and character dynamics as a springboard for creative narratives.
The work reflects the characteristic aesthetic of the circle, focusing on character-driven scenarios that contrast with the epic, high-stakes narrative of the source material. Like many doujinshi created for the Comiket circuit, it serves as a piece of ephemeral fan literature. It was received within the community as a niche creative expansion, offering fans of the Ivalice setting a personal, artist-led perspective on the game's ensemble cast.
