Fire Emblem: Engage

Fire Emblem Engage was released by Nintendo in 2023 as the seventeenth main entry in the long-running tactical role-playing series. Developed by Intelligent Systems, the title was designed to emphasize core combat mechanics and a celebration of the franchise's history through the 'Emblem' system, which allows characters to summon heroes from previous installments. This focus on mechanical depth and tactical positioning was intended to refine the series' signature gameplay loop after the social and narrative-heavy focus of its predecessor, Three Houses.

The character designs were handled by illustrator Mika Pikazo, whose vibrant, high-contrast aesthetic marked a stylistic departure from the more muted tones of earlier entries. The game’s reception was generally positive, with critics highlighting the robust turn-based combat system as one of the most polished in the series' history. While some players expressed mixed reactions to the narrative tone, the title is widely recognized for successfully balancing modern quality-of-life improvements with the challenging difficulty traditionally associated with the franchise.
