Franciscan Institute Publications. Philosophy Series

The Franciscan Institute Publications Philosophy Series was established by the Franciscan Institute at Saint Bonaventure University in the mid-20th century. Born from a mission to preserve and disseminate the intellectual tradition of the Franciscan school, these volumes serve as critical editions and scholarly commentaries on medieval scholasticism. The series emerged during a period of renewed academic interest in medieval philosophy, aiming to provide rigorous, accessible texts for both students and researchers dedicated to the study of figures like Bonaventure, Duns Scotus, and William of Ockham.

The design and editorial direction of the series were guided by the scholars and friars associated with the Institute, who sought a format that balanced academic gravitas with clarity. By prioritizing faithful translations and meticulous critical apparatus, the publications established a reputation for reliability in theological and philosophical circles. They have long been regarded as foundational resources, instrumental in bridging the gap between historical Franciscan manuscripts and modern philosophical discourse.
