The Franciscan Institute Publications Philosophy Series was established by the Franciscan Institute at St. Bonaventure University to preserve and disseminate the intellectual heritage of the Franciscan tradition. Born out of a mid-20th-century movement to restore interest in scholastic theology and medieval philosophy, the series focuses on critical editions and translations of works by seminal figures such as Bonaventure, Duns Scotus, and William of Ockham. The project was designed to provide scholars with rigorous, accessible primary sources that had previously languished in inaccessible manuscripts or outdated, unreliable editions.

The editorial vision behind the series is deeply rooted in the academic commitment of the Friars Minor to bridge medieval contemplative thought with modern philosophical inquiry. These volumes are characterized by a restrained, functional design that favors clarity and scholarly apparatus over ornamentation. Within academic circles, the series is highly regarded for its meticulous philological standards and its role in re-centering Franciscan thinkers in the broader canon of Western philosophy, serving as a vital resource for graduate programs and specialized theological research globally.
