Futa-kun NOW!

Futa-kun NOW! was created by Fujiko Fujio (A), the pen name of Motoo Abukuni, one half of the iconic duo behind Doraemon. Emerging from the vibrant landscape of Japanese manga in the mid-20th century, the series reflects the author's signature blend of surreal humor and imaginative storytelling. It served as a vehicle for his distinctively expressive character designs and pithy, observational wit that appealed to both children and a maturing youth audience.

The design of the series centers on the character Futa-kun, whose visual appearance emphasizes the clean, minimalist lines typical of Fujiko Fujio's aesthetic during this period. The work was received as a charming entry in the mangaka's broader bibliography, known for its ability to balance whimsical scenarios with subtle social commentary. It remains a notable example of the creative independence Motoo Abukuni pursued while developing his own narrative voice apart from the collaborative works produced with Hiroshi Fujimoto.
