Gigolo Illustrated

Gigolo was originally written by Edna Ferber and first published as a novel in 1922. Set against the backdrop of post-World War I France, the story follows Gideon Gory, an expatriate who struggles to find purpose and identity in a rapidly changing world. Ferber, an acclaimed American novelist known for her keen observation of social dynamics and American character, intended the work to capture the disillusionment of the 'Lost Generation' and the peculiar cultural friction between American values and Parisian lifestyle.

The 2020 reissue, released under the title Gigolo Illustrated, functions as a modern trade paperback edition intended to introduce Ferber's classic social commentary to a new generation of readers. While the original 1922 publication relied on the strength of Ferber's prose to define its atmosphere, this edition brings the work into the contemporary marketplace. It is categorized as part of the broader efforts to maintain the accessibility of early twentieth-century literature, reflecting a continued interest in Ferber's exploration of rootlessness and masculinity in the aftermath of the Great War.
