Gigolo Illustrated

Gigolo was originally written by the Pulitzer Prize-winning American novelist Edna Ferber and first published as a short story collection in 1922. Set against the backdrop of post-World War I Europe, the title story explores the disillusionment of the 'lost generation,' focusing on a young American man living a shallow, aimless life in Paris. The narratives are noted for Ferber's keen, journalistic observation of social mores and the shifting cultural landscape of the early twentieth century.

The specific edition referenced here, released under the 'Gigolo Illustrated' branding, is a contemporary compilation. While Ferber is celebrated for her later sweeping epics like Show Boat and Giant, these early stories established her reputation for sharp character studies. This illustrated iteration aims to provide a modern aesthetic framing for her classic prose, serving as a reminder of her foundational role in defining the American literary voice of the jazz age.
