Herinneringen uit het openbare en bijzondere Leven (1799-1849) van ... Nahuys van Burgst

This volume, authored by Hubert Gerard Nahuys van Burgst, serves as a retrospective account of public and private life in the Netherlands during the first half of the nineteenth century. Published as a primary historical record, it captures the personal observations of a Dutch nobleman and naval officer whose career spanned a transformative era of European history. The text provides an intimate look at the societal norms, political shifts, and personal experiences that defined the period between 1799 and 1849, reflecting the author's unique position within the Dutch administrative and military landscape.

The design and production of this work reflect the tradition of nineteenth-century biographical memoirs, intended to preserve the legacy of an aristocratic family for future generations and academic study. Nahuys van Burgst aimed to document the complexities of his duty and daily life with a candidness that was characteristic of the era's autobiographical literature. It has since been maintained as an important archival source in the British Library collection, valued by historians for its detailed insights into the bureaucratic and social structures of pre-modern Netherlands.
