Hiccup Maru/Yajisan Kitasan

Hiccup Maru and Yajisan Kitasan represent the unique creative output of Fujiko F. Fujio, the legendary duo behind Doraemon. These works were born from the authors' fascination with slapstick humor and the absurdist tradition of Japanese comic storytelling. They were crafted during a period where Fujio experimented with shorter, gag-focused narratives that drew inspiration from both classical rakugo performances and the evolving language of mid-century manga.

The design of these characters reflects the quintessential Fujiko F. Fujio aesthetic: simple, expressive lines paired with exaggerated facial reactions that prioritize comedic timing over hyper-realism. While the series did not reach the global ubiquity of their more famous creations, it remains a significant piece of manga history that illustrates the artists' foundational approach to character-driven humor. It was well-received by readers of the era who appreciated the clever wordplay and the lighthearted, rhythmic pacing characteristic of the pair's early collaborative work.
